Hello!

I’m Serena.

Dance is for life; professionally or not, once a dancer… always a dancer.

I was born and raised in beautiful Brasil; a simple girl, always in love with music and dance, people and communicating. I started to take dance lessons when I was eight as my family recognized my passion and ability and the need to keep moving. It was then that I realized that dance was my path in life.

All my sisters danced, as do most people in my country! One of my sisters became a professional belly dancer when I was 9 – I grew up watching her journey. I was so inspired that six years later, I was performing with her all over the country!

Somehow, belly dance is part of my being. Fortunately, with fierce dedication, I have made it possible to have always lived through my art financially and created my life around it.

I learned dance techniques from western modalities, such as Ballet and Jazz. And naturally, having my own culture’s hip abilities in me, it was a smooth entrance into the world of Belly Dance motions. But I knew there was much more to this dance than its moves. So, as a result, I began to educate myself about this art form.
The Stars of Egyptian Dance have always been the inspiration and authority of the art for me. Since then, I have dedicated myself intensively to learning more and more via their paths and styles. I was gaining knowledge of the past to create a new representation of its glory that would be my own – my style, my vision, my art. At the same time, I studied music and culture with some of the most remarkable artists from Egypt. As a result, I continuously dedicate myself to becoming the music in visual motion to the best of my ability.

Special moments to share

So many magic moments lived and shared… So many more yet to come…

Here are some that I will always treasure.

and my world goes…

Round round, baby, round round.

I have been touring the world teaching and performing since 1998 with my partner of 2 decades. Hossam will forever be one of the best Percussionists, composers and Producers of Egyptian Music in the history of Egypt, Hossam Ramzy.
I am immensely proud of many accomplishments in my life before, during and after this partnership: my son Amir; my collaboration with my sister Karima in the early years; the founding of the Drumzy School of Music and Dance in 2006; releasing 2 DVDs: Visual Melodies and Bedouin Tribal Dance; I have featured the numerous CD covers, being the Co-Creator and artistic director, choreographer and dancer of the Dance Queens of the Nile Show; the creation of The Advanced Dancers Course; founding the Ramzy Dance Company; 3 decades of presenting workshops and performances disseminating Egyptian Dance, Music and Culture to a high standard worldwide; collaborations with incredible artists both within and beyond in my artistic field; creating a dance community that members are proud to be part of … and so much more.

So, Serena, what's next?

Right now, the flame of the love for the dance shines brighter than ever in my world, and the future is lit by it.  So, all I can say to end this text is: To Be Continued…

3 Things you will never guess about me

Sport girl

At the age of 11, I was invited to join the girls Javelin team in Sao Paulo. Apparently, I was good at it! But my heart was set in dancing, so here I am now…

Bad knee

A few months later I sustained a serious knee injury. Apparently, I would never be able to dance again! But my heart was set on dancing, so here I am … still.

(Don't tell anyone...) I'm a nerd.

I am an IT College Graduate! Well, was…when I was 19. But guess what? Yep… dancing was the way for me.
